About Canandaigua Lake

The name Canandaigua is derived from the Seneca name which means "the chosen spot", and once you visit you'll understand why. Canandaigua Lake is the fourth largest of the Finger Lakes, and the City of Canandaigua is located at the northern end, making it easy to spend time on the water and in town.

The lake is 15.5 miles long, 1.5 miles wide, and has a shoreline of 35.9 miles. It is known for its water quality and is ideal for all types of water activities. The lake's water is well-oxygenated, allowing fish to live in both shallow and deep areas, creating a great recreational fishery. In fact the water is so clear, is allows visibility of the bottom up to 30 to 50 feet (9.1 to 15.2 m) below the surface.
