Free Fishing Day In NY State - Saturday, September 24th

This Saturday, September 24th is National Hunting and Fishing Day, a day created to enjoy the sport of hunting and fishing. National Hunting and Fishing Day has been celebrated on the 4th Saturday of September as an official U.S. holiday since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed proclamation 4128. The day is meant to recognize that most hunters and fishermen are responsible and enthusiastic naturalists. 

In celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day, Governor Andrew Cuoma announced that this Saturday, September 28th will be a Free Fishing Day in the state of New York! That means that for just this Saturday, citizens of New York state will be able to fish freely on our ponds, lakes, and streams without a fishing licence. 

“Fishing and hunting are long standing traditions in New York,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said in a statement Tuesday, “with some of the best opportunities anywhere, and our state’s active sporting community is a very important partner in ongoing conservation efforts. This Saturday, I encourage new and experienced anglers and hunters to get our and enjoy nature with family and friends by partaking in some of the events being held, or enjoy time afield.”
